It appears that there just has to be one in the pack. One that, no matter how hard you try.... they're never... ever... satisfied.
In this case, it's Melinda Serroa.
Unsure of her predestined hobby, Chance though it would be a nice idea to go down memory lane and share some amazing childhood memories with Melinda.
For a man, that's a rare thing indeed, opening his heart like that.
Well, he didn't want to spoil the surprise, so he just suggested that she follow him, as he had something really special to show her.
Grinning like a Cheshire cat, he marched bravely onwards, hoping that Melinda would appreciate this little venue, just as much as he did in his youth.
When they turned the corner.....
.... her face fell....
.... a mile....
Disappointment showing clearly on her face.
"Welcome to Lakeside conservation centre," Chance beamed proudly, "I used to come here with my dad to do a spot of fishing."
"Um, yeah," came the uncertain reply.
By now, Melinda's eyes were darting about, looking for something.... anything.... that was remotely interesting to her. Sadly.... there was nothing at all.
"It's changed a lot since the last time I was here," Chance continued, "it used to be wasteland, and a dumping site for anything that wasn't nailed down. But then, a couple of young folks decided that it was a place of beauty, and a natural habitat for birds, fish and other wildlife. So they used their savings, and bugged the life out of a couple of high rolling businessmen, and managed to get a few sponsors to help them bring nature back to this place."
"Erm.... that's .... nice."
It was obvious that Melinda expected a lot more than this nature trail. She'd heard the others all bragging about how they'd spent their dates at restaurants etc.... And she'd secretly hoped that Chance would spoil her too.
Chance was slightly put off by Melinda's offhand, disinterested tone, that he didn't see one of the conservation guys checking things over. None other than Edward Cullen (courtesy of Maggie at Cosy Corner Sims 2), otherwise he might have gone across and greeted him.
Seeing that Melinda was distracted, and on the verge of tears, Chance asked if she wouldn't mind playing toss football with her. Anything to get her to interact in some way.
She agreed, and found that she was starting to enjoy herself. Perhaps this wasn't going to be so bad after all.
But then, disaster struck and the heavens opened with a short sharp shower, drenching the two of them and ruining that cherished moment for both parties.
There was a slurping sound nearby and Melinda turned and grimaced slightly at the scantily clad woman shovelling food into her waiting mouth.
Dina Caliente!!!!!
Another wannabe Sim, wanting to have their 15 minutes of fame!!!
If I recall correctly, she'd applied to go on the show and was rejected immediately for breaking the rules. Firstly, you had to be single, and she was widowed.
Oh, and she was too old too. Reaching her late 30's early 40's.....
Aye, pretend to do that fainting thing missus, we've got you tagged here. There's only one woman who is going to demand Chance's attention.
And it's not you!!!
"Are you hungry?" Chance asked Melinda softly, noticing her staring at Dina.
"Umm, yeah, whatever."
"Let me treat you, just order whatever you fancy and I'll pay."
They sat down at the flapjack stand where she ordered the catfish, whilst Chance went for the chicken soup.
Because the soup took the longest to cook, Melinda, choking down what appeared to be a really nice meal, but not to her tastes (apparently)
had already finished her meal, and not hiding her obvious boredom, took refuge on one of the garden benches, sighing very deeply whilst thinking about Chance.
She felt cheated in some way.
Not to be disheartened, Chance challenged her, just so she'd get her butt off the bench.
Fishing.
"Do you know how to cast off?" he asked hesitantly.
"'Course I do, used to fish with my grandpa many years ago," she replied slyly, grinning slightly.
And so they stood, side by side, casting their lines and hoping for a catch. This lasted for about an hour and even Chance found himself getting bored. Besides, she'd hurt her wrist after snagging the line on a submerged root. So they soon gave up that pastime.
Sensing that she wasn't enjoying herself, he led her to one of the docks, where a slight breeze rustled the weeping willows.
There, he took her hand and began kissing up her arm.
He tried flirting with her and kissing etc but somehow, it just wasn't quite enough.
By now, she was so fed up, that she was close to tears and wanted this date to end. Noting that she was visibly upset, Chance gave her a reassuring hug and promised that he'd take her elsewhere on their next date.
Melinda, although showing obvious strains of distress throughout this date, didn't want to appear ungrateful, so she awarded it as a 'dream date'. Just because she felt obliged to be nice.
It's a shame really. They're such a nice couple really. But Chance, I'm afraid, made a wrong choice of venue.
On the way back home, Melinda took the lead, fair running home, to the safety and sanctuary of the mansion. And to hide in a corner so that the other girls didn't see her face flushed and wet with tears.
Let's hope the next one will be better.
Averyelle Fairchild.
